Branding

The focus of this project was to design product merchandise for a client with existing branding. Font, colours, aesthetics, and the brand’s symbols were assigned to us along with the brand’s identity. In anticipation of an upcoming conference, the client requested my services to design a branded deck of motivational cards, a template for presentation slides, button pins, wearable merchandise, and a fully integrated Instagram grid and other resources for their digital marketing needs.

I learned to work within the clients existing branding and take the essence of their company to develop products that reflect their brand values, goals, and identity.

In this project, I further developed skills and an understanding of social media marketing and how to use these platforms for successful branding.

Research & Process

Understanding the client, their brand identity, and the goals they wanted to reach from my design services was the primary focus of this project.

Thorough research and communication with the client to understand their brand, industry (Life Coach, Motivational speaker), and design needs.

Constant communication and check-ins were carried out to ensure client satisfaction.

Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe XD, Instagram

Skill Development

Introduction to mock-ups and client slide decks using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Applied best design principles - layout, typography, and colour theory.

Creative development: unique and custom design concepts, visuals, and layout for social media platforms (Instagram “Grid”).

Keeping current with trending design and branding practices in social media.

Further developed skills to create engaging and original content for social media (GIFs and animations, infographics, illustrations, and promotional material).

Adhered to the “design strategy” presented by the client: timeline, existing branding, and expressed expectations for the visual and promotional representation.

Major Takeaway

Although this project strengthened my skills in social media branding, the technical skills I developed were not the only takeaway. Working with a client’s existing branding taught me lessons in client relations. I stayed within their boundaries of branding and comfort, while still maintaining the integrity of their products.
